The Early Bird Gets the Home
“We were so excited to purchase at One Lake. My husband showed up the morning of the first sales release at 7:30 AM—and he was the first in line! The idea of a lakeside community was such a big draw, so we acted quickly.”
Christina and Abner didn’t have to go far to find their dream home. They were living just up the road from One Lake in their starter home—the one they had purchased when they only had one young child. But now with two teenagers and an adult daughter, they decided the time was right to upgrade their space.
“When we were touring the community, we came across a corner lot facing the hills, and we just knew it was ours. Right then and there we put our names on the waiting list and crossed our fingers. If it was meant to be, it would be.”
When the phone call came that the lot was theirs, they were beyond excited to move into their Plan 3 home at Shimmer by Tri Pointe Homes. It was exactly the floor plan they needed to make the most of their multigenerational living while also getting a spectacular view of nature right from their windows—which is what Christina loves to cherish when she comes home from her long days working as a nurse.
“I now have a home that I can call my corner of tranquility. It’s so serene and peaceful. I start every morning by opening up the big and bright windows, taking in the hillside view, reading and meditating.”
Making the move from a smaller space to a much larger home also means that the soaring ceilings bring a bright and airy feeling, and there’s room for everything to be in its place. The design team at Tri Pointe Homes were also instrumental in helping them choose the perfect finishes and features to fit their lifestyle—including the open-concept kitchen that Christina calls her happy place.
“The kitchen in our last house was so small and cramped, but our new culinary space is so spacious and gorgeous. We have so much more room now that some of our cabinets aren’t even filled yet!”
When the family isn’t gathering together at the kitchen island or dining table for meals and snacks, they have plenty of space to do their own thing. Their oldest daughter lives in the multigenerational suite with her own bedroom, bathroom and living area that also doubles as dad’s office space. They just can’t believe how fortunate they are.
“It’s a joy to come home every day to such a wonderful place. We love living in an outdoor-based community that’s so thoughtfully designed with the Glass House and Journey Coffee Co., especially during these unprecedented times.”
The family-oriented atmosphere and open-air activities for all ages have assured Christina and Abner that they made the right decision to call this community home. There’s always something to do—from flying kites, picnicking on the event lawn or listening to live music at the Glass House.
“One Lake has such a community vibe. You see the coffee shop filled with people, and everyone’s chatting while kids are playing on the lawn. And the events are even more wonderful to be part of!”
Having outdoor space to get to know their neighbors, be active and relax in has made all the difference. Christina has even planted her own small herb garden in their yard, where she can clear her mind while she gardens and picks fresh basil for dinner. She and her husband also love to walk around the 21-acre Lake-Park District and take in the idyllic lakeside view and see the grassy areas humming with activity.
“Because we have extra space on our corner lot, we’ve even purchased a couple of trees for planting. And we’re beyond grateful to have such an incredible community to put down roots.”
